Immunity Boosting Shots Video Recipe

Using a blender to juice means there is only a small amount of clean up so it’s my preferred way to juice.

I don’t peel my ginger as lots of the nutrients are in and near the skin and you will be removing the fibre. The pith of lemons and limes contains lots of good stuff so I peel but leave lots of the white pith on.

The yellow lemon skin is edible but will make your juice bitter. However it does contain a lot of nutrition so I tend to peel citrus roughly and include just a small amount of skin.

It’s fine to keep the skin on your kiwifruit and is recommended to get the most vitamins. Juice the whole apple apart from the stem as it can make the juice bitter.

You can use a juicer to make these but as they are just small shots it can be annoying to clean up afterwards. The blender and bag method is quick and easy – takes seconds to rinse the bag and blender so it’s great for busy days.

The ginger lemon with cayenne pepper is the strongest – but a shot of this feels like it is doing you the world of good.

Although these are shots and are perfect to get reluctant children and adults to get a boost of nutrients you can chew them if you want to maximise the vitamin absorption. Chew 8-10 times until the juice gets warm.

If you are building up to having fresh strong fruit vegetable juice (most juices are mainly fruit and very sweet unlike these) then these shots are an ideal way to build up to it. In my house, fresh juice nutrient dense is often forced upon guests and downing a shot is a good middle ground as not everyone can have a litre of fresh strong green juice.

Cucumber Vodka Soda

Courtesy of How Sweet Eats

The benefits of cucumber juice to overall health and wellness are well-documented. It's lauded for its 95 percent water content and contains a ton of electrolytes, which makes it highly hydrating and the perfect post-workout recovery drink. And lucky for you, it's also a beautifully refreshing addition to any healthy cocktail. We particularly love the idea of keeping things simple, like in this Cucumber Vodka Soda recipe, which is a true fridge-cleanout cocktail. If you want to make things even healthier, skip the simple syrup.

If your idea of a fruity cocktail is a whole lot of whiskey with a slight addition of some citrus, then this is the cocktail for you. The smokiness of the whiskey while be the main flavor point in this old fashioned, but the blood orange will be a nice kick of acidity that will make the drink much lighter for a hot day.

Inspired by Brazil's national drink, these boozy popsicles are made with cachaça, lime juice, and mint.

“I love grapefruit cocktails year-round, but the rye and sage make this one especially wintry.” —Alison Roman, senior associate food editor

The hot toddy is not simply a mixture of hot water and booze. It’s a miracle worker, a doctor, and a life coach in a cup. And although it does seem to do the trick for everything from a sore throat to a cough, it’s just as good when you’re healthy. This version—from Damon Boelte, bar manager at Prime Meats restaurant in Brooklyn—omits the usual honey or sugar and plays up the herbal and spicy notes instead.
